Gordon Meyer was drawn to music at an early age while growing up in Wisconsin. With a grandfather folksinger and a mother trained in classical vocal music at Julliard in New York, Gordon took to music at an early age. When the folk music craze of the fifties hit, he bought his first guitar and taught himself to play. He and his brothers performed widely in Wisconsin, forming several ensembles with high school and college friends, but Gordon chose a career teaching emotionally and behaviorally challenged children. During his teaching career, he became involved in a cappella singing and founded The Fairlanes, an a cappella doo-wop quartet in 1991, that is still active today.
In 2005 Gordon retired from teaching and began to seriously write and perform his own songs. In 2007, he founded The Blue Stratum Band with Sandy Cadman and has been writing and performing around the Twin Cities ever since.
In addition to his baritone voice, Gordon is a multi-instrumentalist playing the guitar, banjo and piano.
Sandy “Stink Eye” Cadman’s musical roots began at a tender age. She spent several years as a young apprentice of the San Gabriel Civic Light Opera in Southern California and was the grand prize winner of the 44th Annual Los Angeles Artists Of The Future competition before completing an undergraduate degree at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. From there, she sang for six seasons with the San Francisco Chamber Singers (now Volti) and was a featured guest soloist for several Bay Area classical musical organizations, most notably the San Francisco Early Music Society and the San Fransisco Chorale Society and is featured on several of their recordings.
Upon relocating to the Twin Cities from the west coast in 2003, she sang with the VocalEssence chorus before meeting Gordon Meyer in 2007, when both were choral section leaders for the historic Wesley United Methodist Church in Minneapolis. Upon Gordon's invitation, Sandy accompanied him on several original songs that he was recording at the time. From there, they formed The Blue Stratum band and Sandy has been singing and writing original music for the group ever since. Learn more at www.sandycadmanmusic.com
Jeremy Rose joins Blue Stratum as the grand master of bass. He is an accomplished, multi-instrumentalist with a past life as a blues man.
When not moonlighting as a bassist, Jeremy teaches courses in persuasion at the University of Minnesota. He has had years of experience in the field of trial consulting, advising attorneys on jury decision-making, opening statements, and jury selection interviews. He was the featured guest on Minnesota Public Radio's Morning Show program on jury duty, June 2005. In addition to his legal interests, he is also fascinated by the topic of credibility, as it applies to all areas of life. Other interests include "blasphemous" cover versions of well-known songs, crop circles, and British town names.
Liz Zeno joined the band in May 2016 on keyboard, guitar and vocals. Liz grew up in a musical family (Jeremy Rose is her brother) and loved music from an early age. Liz played piano for chapel as a youngster and sang in every choir and ensemble she could find in high school and college. She took a long break from music while her children were young, but has come back to it through playing and singing at the Virginia Street Church in St. Paul where she is currently the church's choir director. Liz played a major role in the 2013 recording of the music CD, Open Door, by the church's band, Joyful Noise. Liz also sings with the St. Catherine Choral Society, a masterworks chorale. Liz is thrilled to have the fun of making music with friends in The Blue Stratum Band.
